POSitive Software began developing POS software in 1991 in Richland, Washington.  Prior to that the company was in the computer business.  In fact the original company, Kennewick Computer Company started selling Atari computers in 1981 in the days before the IBM PC ever came on the market.  Soon a new partner, a programmer, came to work in the company. 

By the late 80’s Kennewick Computer had become the Best Place In Town To Buy Your Computer! Kennewick Computer became a dealer for a popular POS software program and sold it to several local clients.  As Kennewick Computer used that POS system it was obvious that there were important features that should have been in the POS system that simply weren’t there.  In 1991 the programmer began writing a POS system to provide those important features for Kennewick Computer.  By 1993 the new software was not only running the computer store but had been installed at several local stores as well.  The software was ready for bigger markets. 

In November 1993 POSitive was an exhibitor at COMDEX in Las Vegas.  The goal was to recruit dealers to sell POSitive Software to their customers.  Those early dealers loved the software and the company has grown steadily ever since.  

In 1996 POSitive started to write POSitive for Windows.  That software was three years in development and was released in February 1999.  In July 1999 POSitive teamed with Edge Technologies, the developer of Account Wizard E-Commerce Systems to provide a complete “round trip” e-commerce system that seamlessly integrates the store based POS system with the web based e-commerce system.  Orders taken on the web make the “round trip” by importing the web orders from the web into POSitive For Windows at the click of a button. 

Today POSitive Software is used worldwide by well over 4,000 users and represented by over 400 dealers.   

The company has the same owners it has always had.  The newest member of senior management started with the company in December of 1993.  The company is stable in its people, sales, and its management philosophy because the business has grown as a direct result of its support by and for its dealers and its users.  POSitive Software Company was never a part of the Dot Com phenomena that saw companies rise from nothing to giants and back to nothing again.  POSitive has managed its growth through these turbulent times in technology.  And yes, the company still operates Kennewick Computer, the company that started it all.
